PASSION PROJECT
VIRTUAL COUNSELOR FOR TEENS
I received news that a schoolmate whom I had known relatively well took his life. It felt surreal, almost impossible to comprehend. As reality sunk in, I felt a wave of helplessness washing over me. I chose to overcome this by proposing a Mental Health Leadership Org. to offer peer support and raise awareness. Although my school principal was supportive of my idea, due to limited school resources, she couldn’t approve it.
Rather than giving up, I took a different approach. I immersed myself in research, exploring how AI could support teen mental health. This journey led me to present my findings at the MAMCOANA conference, where I shared my vision for integrating AI into mental health support systems. Building on that foundation, I developed a virtual counseling app designed to support teens struggling with mental health challenges.
To my surprise and excitement, the app caught the attention of my local congressman and was even recognized in the Congressional App Challenge 2024 submission. My goal is to continue refining the app and making it widely accessible in schools, ensuring teens have round-the-clock support when they need it most. The app will work alongside school counselors, offering on-demand virtual counseling sessions while monitoring crisis indicators to enable timely intervention. This is more than just a project for me—it’s a mission to ensure no teen feels alone in their struggles.
